I don’t know about you, but to me this spring weather has been perfection! I don’t like when the temperature is much above 80 degrees, and I really hate humidity, so spring in Maryland is one of my favorite times! Because of this, I have been trying to enjoy as much of this wonderful weather as I can, even if its just sitting outside my office or in my car with the window down between clients. When I’m not at work, however, I try to do a little bit more outside.

As you might remember from a post about me when I first moved to Maryland… I love to go to Baker Park. Some things never change, and when it is nice outside, I find myself looking for reasons to go there. Especially this spring, I have been enjoying it even more. I love watching the flowering trees bloom and other trees begin to grow leaves. I love to walk there, and see all the little kids learning how to play soccer, and be inspired by the much more athletic people running and playing baseball or tennis. Something about the air in spring seems fresher to me, too. When I’m at the park, everything just seems more alive, growing, and new. But this year, I am learning to love it for other reasons…

I don’t know about you, but my winter seemed busy and rushed. I had a chronically full to-do list, and what seemed like never enough time to finish it. With the beginning of spring this year came a little break in (what was beginning to feel like) my never ending to-do list, and some more time for myself. When the weather started to finally feel like spring, I started to go to the park more. This year, the park has been my chance to slow down, and remember what life is really about. A time to remember that I will have enough time to get everything done and take time for myself. A place to sit on a swing and remember how to play and be a kid. Where I get to sit on a blanket and read about other places, things, and ideas. A place to meet friends and reconnect. In short, I have been reminded that every period of your life that seems cold and never ending does end, and it’s really beautiful on the other side! Spring is a time of renewal, and I hope the lesson of self care I am learning this spring is one I will remember for the rest of the year!

I want to challenge everyone this spring to take a couple extra minutes for yourself. You will never be upset that you left the office a couple minutes early to enjoy a walk through the park, or dinner with your family or friends. Take the time to slow down and smell the roses (or any flower!) Do something you love, or try something new! Share what you love to do in spring, or what you will do to take time for yourself, below and help inspire others to do the same!
