music%20therapy%20blogger%20challenge%202-2I was just talking with my co-workers after our team meeting early last week about how much this particular app has aided me with planning, completing tasks, etc. As someone who works with children with developmental disabilities, I understand the challenges that are faced by both the parent/caregiver and child… and not just because I am the therapist, but because I have ADHD. As you may or may not know, a typical challenge that many diagnosed with ADHD faces is organization due to inattention, fixation on things that may be more interesting (a television show vs. planning), forgetfulness, etc. Symptoms vary based on the person, the type of diagnoses (inattentive vs. hyperactive), and other factors.

Just as the parents of music therapy clients work with their children to find ways to cope with what is happening with their child, my parents did the same with me growing up. Trial and error as I like to call it. For me, something that I’ve always been drawn to and loved were lists.

WorkFlowy is essentially one big to-do list that can be broken into different categories based on need. For example, I have categories for both jobs that I work, a category for church, and a category for personal needs. You can access this list on your computer, phone, iPad, tablet – WHEREVER…. and you can even share lists with other people who have WorkFlowy accounts.

With school, appointments, practice, work, preparing meals… there can be a lot that goes into one day.  While I am a music therapist, I am human too, and we all use tools to manage the hussle and bussle of everyday life. I think I speak for my colleagues in saying we understand all that you do in order to get your children and loved ones to us every week for sessions, and we appreciate it so much.

I want to invite you to give WorkFlowy a try, or maybe use your Google Calendar or iCal a little bit more. If you aren’t so much into technology, a good old fashioned planner does the trick just as well. Please let us know how it worked for you or share your own personal organizational tips!
