Feedback Friday May 2015

Every day in our music therapy sessions there are spontaneous statements from families and staff that provide valuable feedback on the work we do. In an effort to capture those moments, we initiated Feedback Friday.
Earlier this month, I was in upper North West DC to visit one of the Memory Care facilities that we serve. At this particular facility, we provide a group music therapy session one time per month. Now, a lot can happen with these residents during the weeks that we aren’t there, which is why we rely on the staff to keep us updated as to everyone’s status as well as to provide opportunities for the residents to engage with music in between our monthly music therapy session. As I was setting up for the session, several staff members were assisting the residents in transitioning to the music therapy group. Out of nowhere, I hear someone begin singing the greeting song that we use to start our music therapy sessions here. I look up and see one of the nurses holding hands with a gentleman, using his name in the song, and dancing him across the room towards an empty chair in the group. What a thoughtful and appropriate way to help this gentleman transition to the session!
